Picnic Season!

Picnic - season

As Easter approaches here at The Jammery we are turning our focus onto the coming milder weather and the chance to get out and about and enjoy our wonderful County of Dorset…and with us the Picnic basket will feature heavily!

There is nothing better than picking a scenic spot, getting comfortable and breaking out the picnic basket full of goodies! What more could you want, munching on a hot water crust picnic pie filled with chutney and pork, followed by some wonderful sweet custard and jam tarts…hopefully all washed down with a favourite drink…ours of course is ginger beer!

To help get ready for the better weather why not join us in The Jammery for a hands on workshop where Matt will show you how to make a hot water raised pie, sweet pastry and custard …and I will show you how to make a tomato and apple chutney that is just right for going in the pie or eating separately with a tasty local cheddar, along with the berrylicious Jumbleberry jam…a jam for all seasons!

Wishing you all a very happy Easter and lots of lovely picnic weather to follow!

Easter Workshop

I cannot believe that Easter is almost upon us! Thoughts have turned form pink Yorkshire Rhubarb to Hot cross Buns, Butterscotch sauce, pickling and chutneys!

Our amazing one off Easter Special workshop on the 23rd March is a fantastic day of making Hot Cross buns, a deep dark and fruity chutney, a butterscotch sauce that goes with everything, pickled cucumbers in Bourbon and an apple and butterscotch crumble cake!

The baking learning comes from Matt Wilding a local baker and the preserving and sauce making comes from me…all in one day held at The Jammery here at Droop Farm.

From Spain to Yorkshire…

We started January 2024 having wonderful organic Seville oranges delivered to The jammery in readiness for making our award winning Seville Orange Marmalade. Many many jars later we also ran a couple of Marmalade Workshops with the lovely Matt from Winfrith Bakery joining us to create his baking magic alongside the marmalade making….

This week we had our delivery of Yorkshire Rhubarb from the wonderful Oldroyd and sons rhubarb farm in the middle of the Yorkshire triangle…beautiful pink stalks of joy! Already Rhubarb and ginger jam has been made and back in stock on the website.

We have a Rhubarb workshop happening at the beginning of March…lots of fun to be had making Rhubarb and vanilla jam, rhubarb curd and Rhubarb and custard choux buns. Available to book in the shop online.

Where has this year gone so far!

I cannot believe it is the end of September already! Summer is certainly over if the grey rainy skies outside The Jammery are anything to go by!

We have had a busy fun filled year so far as our workshops are now up and running, Great taste award judging and winning a Great taste award, my 60th birthday and the Sturminster Newton cheese Festival!

Our first lot of workshops were the end of February celebrating the wonderful Rhubarb from the Yorkshire rhubarb triangle. The Rhubarb Rhubarb days were filled with fun, laughter and of course all things rhubarb…from making rhubarb and ginger jam, rhubarb and date chutney to Rhubarb infused Gin…

This all led very nicely into The Strawberry and Lemons workshops in May, where the delights of strawberries and lemons were showcased in Strawberry and Champagne jam, Lemon Curd and Limoncello…the tastings went down a storm as did the makings!

Through these months there was a few days of Great Taste Judging, always interesting, sometimes tasty and others, well lets just say points for trying!

The Summer was upon us with vast quantities of strawberry jam being made using my fav strawberries from The New Forest Berry Co…. they do grow a tasty strawberry! Oh and we won a one star Great taste award for our Five Fruit Marmalade!

Lots of fun was had in the extremely merry month of August….someone (who me???) turned 60 and decided a month was required to celebrate this milestone birthday, starting with a Mad Hatters tea party and ending with 3 glorious weeks in Italy with all my lovely family!

Back to earth with bump with preparations for the Sturminster Cheese Festival which although held on one of the hottest weekends went very well…Black Garlic Ketchup being the best seller by a mile!

We have autumnal workshops coming up in October..all sold out! These are being run with Matt from Winfrith Bakery….jam and chutney making combined with sweet and savoury Tart making!…

Look out for the Christmas workshops….details coming soon!

Welcoming in 2023!

Here at The Jammery we are busy planning for the coming year! An exciting time for us in January as our ideas come to fruition over the coming months….just a taster of what’s to come;

New products – after some more taste testing we should be launching a couple of new products very soon… could get a bit saucy soon!

New At The Jammery Courses – Marmalade making with a twist, afternoon tea courses, and of course one or two Festive making courses….watch this space for dates coming up soon!

….and of course we will be popping up at events in and around Dorset

Launching our Black Garlic Ketchup!

black, garlic, ketchupLaunching our new Black Garlic Ketchup

Launching our new Black Garlic Ketchup: this is a versatile sweet, mellow and smoky sauce that adds flavour to your steaks, burgers and of course those thrice cooked chips. How about using it as a unique secret ingredient in risotto and cassoulets to add a certain something!

We use British grown garlic that has been fermented in a very dark place for many weeks. This is what gives this Ketchup its unique Unami flavour just crying out to be used…

Why not try it, order yours today and make those thrice cooked chips sing!

A few Easter goodies

Easter in Lockdown again! This time though we can meet uptown 6 people or two households outdoors! So why not celebrate Easter with a small gathering (follow the rules guys!) in a open space or garden….have a picnic with Easter egg hunt..or maybe for the grownups a hunt for the miniature bottles!
